Trauma Series: What is Trauma and How Can it Affect my Kinship Child? LIVE Webinar was presented on 5/9/2023 and provides helpful insight on trauma a kinship child may experience and how to adjust one’s parenting techniques and methods to accommodate a traumatized child’s needs.
Description
Understanding Trauma and how it affects children can be very difficult. Because trauma can be experienced in a uniquely personal way, a child’s reaction to the trauma can also be just as unique. In addition to understanding trauma, it is important to recognize children who have experienced trauma such as abuse, neglect, domestic violence, community violence, and the like, can continue to experience the effects of this trauma long after they have been removed from the situation or the source. Knowing and understanding what trauma is and how it can affect children has implications for how caregivers provide structure, discipline, support, and empathy, while remaining sensitive to the child’s past experiences.
