Autism can be difficult to understand and recognize. For caregivers, hearing that your child has autism (or is on the spectrum) can be terrifying, confusing, and, even gut-wrenching. Caregivers can be fearful over the future-worrying about how their child will function in society, asking questions like will they have friends or be able to make friends, will they be successful at school, what kind of future will they have, and, even more importantly, how will I take care of them? Am I able to take care of them?

There have been so many negative myths and stories told about Autism and spectrum related disorders, that when a child receives that diagnosis, caregivers become fearful over what their experiences in life will be and may feel at a loss themselves when it comes to parenting an autistic child.

In this webinar, we’ll focus on understanding what Autism (and other Spectrum-related disorders) are and learn some recognizable signs in children. We’ll also discuss practical strategies that parents can implement to help their children thrive as well as resources available throughout the Commonwealth to support autistic children and families.

The Autism Society of the Bluegrass is a resource and support group for families and professionals in the Central Kentucky area who are involved with autism. ASBG is a chapter of the Autism Society of America and a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization.
