This resource is available for download to provide information to kinship caregivers as they navigate the legal process in kinship care.
Description
Understanding Legal processes and courtroom procedures can be very confusing for many relative and fictive kin caregivers. Understanding each stage of the legal process, and the corresponding court procedures that take place as a result, can leave many caregivers confused about what to expect at court, what the purpose of the hearing is, what their rights are as a caregiver, and what the rights are of the kinship child. During our Lost in the Legal Process webinar, Catherine Fuller, a Managing Attorney for Legal Aid services in Kentucky, and a Kinship caregiver herself, was available to help us understand many of those very issues. This PowerPoint will review the main points from the webinar and includes information that was presented and discussed with participants during the webinar. Although laws and statutes can change over time, this PowerPoint can provide helpful information for kinship caregivers who are want to learn more about general courtroom processes and no longer remain “Lost in the Legal Process”.
