Grace for Hidden Wounds: Unmasking the Pain That Fuels Addiction Through G.R.A.C.E. Trauma-Informed, Spiritually Integrated Implementation Framework
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this conference, participants will be able to:
- Identify key systemic, organizational, and clinical barriers to implementing trauma-informed care in addiction treatment and drug court settings, with particular attention to justice-involved individuals with opioid and substance use disorders.
- Describe the core components and guiding principles of the G.R.A.C.E. Trauma-Informed Implementation Framework, including its integration of trauma-informed care, systems theory, and the biopsychosocial–spiritual perspective.
- Apply and adapt the G.R.A.C.E. Framework within drug court and community-based addiction treatment settings to improve trauma responsiveness, ethical practice, and treatment outcomes, recognizing the need for flexibility based on organizational capacity, client needs, cultural context, and spiritual diversity.
Presenter Bio
Loretta Jackson is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Georgia and a Doctoral Candidate at the University of Kentucky. She has over 12 years of experience in the addiction field, serving in both leadership and clinical roles, including as Clinical Director of the Brunswick Judicial Circuit Drug Court. In this role, she worked extensively with vulnerable and marginalized populations impacted by trauma, substance use disorders, and systemic inequities.
Loretta is the founder and CEO of Beauty-N-Brokenness Counseling Services, LLC, a private practice committed to helping individuals cultivate hope, purpose, and meaning through trauma-responsive, spiritually integrated care. Her clinical and scholarly interests center on improving treatment outcomes for individuals navigating the complex intersection of traumatic exposure, addiction, and co-occurring mental health conditions.
As a Doctor of Social Work (DSW) scholar, Loretta’s work focuses on advancing clinical practice at the intersection of trauma and addiction. Her capstone project examines strategies for improving substance use treatment outcomes by addressing unresolved trauma that often underlies addictive behaviors. Drawing on trauma-informed care, the biopsychosocial–spiritual framework, systems theory, and evidence-based practice, she developed the G.R.A.C.E. Trauma-Informed Implementation Model. This spiritually integrated framework is designed to illuminate the hidden wounds of addiction and support individuals, clinicians, and organizations in adopting holistic, healing-centered approaches to care.
Loretta is deeply committed to bridging clinical practice, faith integration, and implementation science to strengthen treatment systems and expand access to compassionate, equitable services. Her work reflects a strong commitment to ethical social work practice, cultural responsiveness, and the belief that sustainable recovery requires addressing the whole person, mind, body, spirit, and community.
