Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this conference, participants will be able to:

  1.  Recognize the importance of addressing burnout within social work practice and its impact on social workers’ self-care practices.
  2.  Demonstrate how Walk and Talk Therapy (WTT) can be implemented as an organizational intervention.
  3. Explain how integrating experiential learning theory (ELT) and self-care theory (SCT) influence social workers in reclaiming self-care within the workplace.

Presenter Bio

Dewanna Chambliss-Young, MSW, LCSW, is a Doctor of Social Work (DSW) Candidate at the University of Kentucky. Chambliss-Young earned a Master of Social Work (MSW) from Jackson State University in April 2012.

Chambliss-Young is a HUD-VASH Case Manager at the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi (February 2023–present). In this position, Chambliss-Young assists Veterans with finding and maintaining stable housing by providing case management and individual and group psychotherapy.

Chambliss-Young’s research interests include social worker self-care and organizational interventions to address social worker burnout, with a capstone project focused on walk-and-talk therapy as an organizational intervention to support social worker well-being while improving client outcomes.

Accreditation: University of Kentucky College of Social Work, Provider # 1377, is approved as an ACE provider to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE provider approval period: 9/29/25-9/29/28. Social workers participating in this conference will receive up to 15 general continuing education credits.
