About the Program:
Resilience is the ability to adapt well in the face of adversity, such as when you may be experiencing personal or family issues, a serious health concern, work stress, money worries, or other difficulties. It’s the ability to bounce back from challenges. According to the American Psychological Association (APA), 2022, one of the keyways to build resilience is to focus on self-care. This session will provide ways to manage stress by practicing self-care. Participants will:
- Take a self-esteem checkup
- Learn to Improve their self-esteem and adopt healthier attitudes about self.
- Parents will learn to define stress
- Parents will learn how stress affects the body
- Parents will identify and practice mindfulness techniques for stress-management.
- Practice mindfulness by learning to stay in the moment, reframing and adopting an attitude of gratitude.
- Parents will learn why it’s important to develop a healthy self-care plan.
- Parents will develop a personal self-care plan.
This information packed foster parent training program will teach parents skills that will be helpful in creating a holistic approach towards practicing self-care which is effective in managing stress and building resilience. Building resilience is important to mitigating the effects of trauma. Becoming more resilient not only helps you get through difficult circumstances, but it also empowers you to grow and even improve your life along the way (APA, 2022). This training will help parents learn to increase overall health and wellness for themselves and their foster youth.
This training is approved for 2 credit hours for ongoing, elective training credit for Kentucky foster parents. Though the training is delivered virtually, it fulfils the face-to-face, group setting requirement. A reliable internet connection and computer/ smartphone with webcam are required.
