Description

Artificial intelligence tools are already reshaping documentation, psychoeducation, and client communication in helping professions — often faster than agency policy or ethics guidance can keep up. This 2-hour, hands-on workshop gives clinical and non-clinical direct-service providers a practical framework for using AI responsibly, with a particular focus on improving accessibility for neurodivergent clients and clients with disabilities. 

Participants will learn how AI can help build more accessible client materials — plain-language rewrites, structured or visual formats, adjustable reading levels — and practice applying these approaches to real handouts and psychoeducational content. The workshop also covers documentation support, confidentiality-protective prompting, and how to recognize and correct bias or error in AI output before it reaches a client or a record. 

By the end, participants will be able to distinguish appropriate from inappropriate AI use in direct-practice settings, draft a prompt that supports a clinical task while protecting confidentiality, and apply a simple workflow to review and correct AI output — including checking that accessibility adaptations genuinely serve the client rather than flattening their voice or needs. 

Learning Outcomes

At the conclusion of this training, you will be able to:

• Differentiate ethically appropriate from inappropriate uses of AI in clinical and direct-practice settings, applying core principles of privacy, informed consent, and bias awareness. 

• Construct a confidentiality-protective prompt to support a clinical or psychoeducational task (e.g., note outline, client handout), incorporating accessible adaptations for neurodivergent clients and clients with disabilities. 

• Apply a structured review-and-correction workflow to evaluate AI-generated content for accuracy, bias, and clinical appropriateness prior to client or record use.

Instructor

Dr. Priscila Llamosa 

Dr. Priscila Llamosa is a Visiting Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Kentucky College of Social Work. She is a mixed-ethnicity, Latiné, cisgender female whose social work practice and supervision frameworks are grounded in social justice and anti-oppressive approaches. Her education includes a Doctor of Social Work from the University of Kentucky, a Master’s of Social Work, and a graduate certificate in Military and Trauma Counseling from East Carolina University, where she was awarded the Maria McMahon Achievement Award by the School of Social Work in 2015. In addition, she is a University of North Carolina Wilmington 2022 Open Pedagogy Faculty Fellow. Dr. Llamosa’s scholarship has led to national and international conferences, workshops, and speaking engagements, multiple publications, including an open-access book titled Handbook for the Recently Admitted: A Practical Guide for University of Kentucky’s Doctor of Social Work Students, which has been adapted by several other departments and universities.
