Description
Overview
Social Work Ethics for Kentucky Licensure Renewal examines the code of ethical conduct set forth in 201 KAR 23:080 and the NASW Code of Ethics. This course is designed for all social work professionals practicing in Kentucky, including licensed clinical social workers.

Learning Outcomes
By the conclusion of this course, participants will:
- Recognize the importance of professional social work ethics and their application in practice.
- Analyze the Kentucky Code of Ethical Conduct and the NASW Code of Ethics.
- Describe approaches to ethical theory and ethical decision-making.
- Apply an ethical decision-making framework for addressing ethical issues in professional practice.
- Identify common ethics violations and potential reasons they may occur.
- Examine best practices and standards for ethical use of technology and social media in social work.
Instructor
Timothy Olsen, LCSW
Major Timothy Olsen graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Social Work in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts in Social from, from the Army’s Master of Social Work Program in Fort Sam Houston with a Master of Social Work and is currently a PhD candidate in the UK College of Social Work. His focus is on moral injury and suicide prevention in the National Guard populations.
Timothy has been in the military for 20 years, starting as an enlisted soldier, performing clinical work focused on trauma and substance use at Veterans Affairs hospitals in Kentucky and Tennessee. He currently services as the Deputy State Surgeon and Director of Psychological Health for the Kentucky Army National Guard. He also maintains a part-time private practice in Lexington.
Accreditation
The University of Kentucky College of Social Work, provider number 1377, is approved as an ACE provider to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE provider approval period: 9/29/2025-9/29/2028. Social workers completing this course receive 3.0 ethics continuing education credits.
This course is also approved for continuing education by the Kentucky Board of Social Work (provider #KBSW Ethics 2026017).
How to Claim Credit
To receive credit for this course, you must view/complete the entire course, pass the related post-test, and submit a completed course evaluation. If your score is less than the passing score of 75%, you may retake the test. You have three attempts to pass the test. Your certificate will become available for an automatic download once all of the requirements are complete.
