Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this conference, participants will be able to:

1. Describe high sensory processing sensitivity (SPS) as a biologically based temperament trait relevant to athletes.
2. Explain how high SPS influences athlete mental health, coping, and performance across different sport environments.
3. Apply the SENSE Framework as a conceptual tool to facilitate recognition and understanding of high SPS in sport contexts.
4. Identify strategies for building collective awareness among athletes, coaches, and sport social workers to support high SPS athletes effectively.

 

Presenter Bio

Kristine Proctor is a licensed clinical and macro social worker with more than 30 years of experience as a clinician, consultant, and organizational leader. She is the founder and CEO of Proctor Wellness International, which provides counseling, consulting, leadership development, and experiential learning services for individuals, organizations, and international nonprofit initiatives.

Kristine’s educational background includes a BS in Behavioral Science and a minor in Business Administration (1992) and an MSW from Western Michigan University (1995). She is currently a Doctor of Social Work candidate at the University of Kentucky, concentrating in Sport Social Work, with a projected graduation date of May 2026. She holds certifications in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, Integrative Mental Health, and Equine Assisted Psychotherapy.

Kristine’s professional work spans clinical practice, organizational systems, and applied scholarship, with a focus on mental health, resilience, and human performance. Her Capstone explores the intersection of high sensory processing sensitivity, athlete mental health, coping capacity, and performance. Additional scholarly interests focus on high sensory processing sensitivity and differential susceptibility, the role of sport in attachment and emotional regulation for international adoptees, integrative mental health interventions for anxiety and depression, and parent spectator behavior within youth sport contexts.

Kristine is widely recognized as a sought-after speaker and consultant, known for translating complex clinical and research-based concepts into clear, engaging, and user-friendly information that is both practical and effective. She has been repeatedly recognized as a top-rated mental health provider in Volusia County, Florida, where her primary clinical practice is based, earning multiple local “Best Therapist” distinctions based on client reviews over several consecutive years, underscoring the real-world impact of her integrative, research-informed approach.

Accreditation: University of Kentucky College of Social Work, Provider # 1377, is approved as an ACE provider to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE provider approval period: 9/29/25-9/29/28. Social workers participating in this conference will receive up to 15 general continuing education credits.
