Increasing Career Readiness in Social Work Students through Renewable Assignments

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this conference, participants will be able to:

  1.  Attendees will learn more about Open Educational Resources (OER), and specifically, renewable assignments and assessments.
  2.  Attendees will learn about how renewable assignments and assessments can be adopted into the social work curriculum to help social work students increase career readiness.
  3.  Attendees will be introduced to a renewable assignment toolkit that will give guidance and resources on converting social work.

 

Presenter Bio:

Professor Travis Catt is the head of the Sociology and Social Work Departments at Eastern Arizona College in Thatcher, Arizona. Professor Catt holds a Bachelor’s of Social Work (BSW) from Brigham Young University-Idaho, a Master’s of Social Work (MSW) from Arizona State University, a Master’s of Sociology from Arizona State University (MA), and is a Doctoral Candidate at the University of Kentucky in their Doctorate of Social Work (DSW) program.

His research interests include disability services, social work field education supervision, and civic engagement in young adults. His doctoral capstone project is focused on improving career readiness in social work students through the adoption of renewable assignments and assessments in social work curriculum.

Professor Catt has been published in Forbes Magazine and recognized by the Arizona Secretary of State and the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge Initiative regarding his work with civic engagement and voter registration among the student body at Eastern Arizona College. Prior to transitioning into full-time faculty work, Professor Catt was part of two multi-million-dollar nationwide research projects focused on increasing student success in young adults.

Professor Catt is passionate about connecting college students to their communities through the use of authentic assignments and assessments in the college curriculum. He believes that colleges and universities are their communities’ greatest assets, and that college staff and students are the current and future leaders that the world needs.

Credit Hours: 1.0 (ACE)

Target Audience: This conference is intended for social workers and students.

Accreditation: University of Kentucky College of Social Work, Provider # 1377, is approved as an ACE provider to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE provider approval period: 9/29/25-9/29/28. Social workers participating in this conference will receive up to 15 general continuing education credits.

Claiming CE Credit: Instructions for claiming CE credit will be disseminated at the beginning of each session.
