Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this conference, participants will be able to:
- Integrate multiple theoretical frameworks to develop an innovative, equity-centered intervention model for addressing a specific social problem in social work practice synthesizing Ecological Systems Theory, Role Exit Theory, and Social Identity Theory into the SIRTS Framework to guide multilevel interventions targeting social isolation among former athletes.
- Design and articulate a theoretically informed, community-based practice application that operationalizes assessment, engagement, relational/group interventions, identity/narrative work, and environmental supports to promote reconnection and well-being in a vulnerable population.
- Incorporate equity, ethical, and inclusive considerations (e.g., addressing ageism, access barriers, and gendered expectations) into intervention design, recruitment, and implementation to advance mental health equity across diverse lifespans and athletic transitions.
Presenter Bio:
Timothy R. King, BSW, MSSW, is a Doctor of Social Work (DSW) Candidate at the University of Kentucky, with a focus on clinical mental health and sport social work. He serves as a full-time lecturer in the Department of Social Work at Middle Tennessee State University and as a long-time adjunct instructor at Motlow State Community College, where he equips students for careers in social work through courses on introduction to social work, cultural diversity, social justice and equity, adult mental health, and social policy. King’s research interests center on reducing social isolation through innovative applications of sport social work, emphasizing lifespan transitions, identity reconstruction, and equity across diverse populations.
His Capstone Project, “Reducing Social Isolation Through Sport Social Work: The Sports Identity Reconnection Through Sport (SIRTS) Framework,” introduces a multilevel model integrating Ecological Systems Theory, Role Exit Theory, and Social Identity Theory to foster resilience and belonging among former athletes via intergenerational programming, narrative co-creation, and systemic advocacy. King holds certifications in Gerontology, Applied Statistical Strategies, and Trauma, reflecting his commitment to evidence-based practice. His publications include co-authoring “Historical Analysis of Police Social Work and Collaborative Strategies by Police Departments and Social Service Providers” in the International Journal of Social Sciences and Management Review(2025).
With extensive field experience supporting individuals, families, and older adults in community, mental health, and healthcare settings, he advocates for advancing equity and addressing structural inequities in social work interventions. His scholarly contributions position him as a dedicated educator and practitioner, bridging clinical expertise with innovative solutions for psychological well-being.

Accreditation: University of Kentucky College of Social Work, Provider # 1377, is approved as an ACE provider to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE provider approval period: 9/29/25-9/29/28. Social workers participating in this conference will receive up to 15 general continuing education credits.
