The Weight of the World: Integrating Social Work into Obesity Medicine
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this conference, participants will be able to:
1. Be able to identify gaps in current behavioral health integration within obesity medicine.
2. Explain the unique role of social workers in bridging medical and behavioral health needs.
3. Identify and understand the physiology of obesity and weight bias through a neurobiological lens through medical and behavioral literacy.
4. Be able to apply framework theories to reduce and combat weight bias, including but not limited to, Health Belief Model, Weight-Inclusive Anti-Oppressive Clinical Social Work Model and Weight-Inclusive Framework.
Presenter Bio
Timisha Malone, MSW, LICSW, DSWc, is a licensed clinical social worker and Doctor of Social Work candidate at the University of Kentucky. She is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Time For a Change Wellness, LLC, the only obesity medicine and bariatric specialized telehealth practice founded in New Hampshire. She earned her Master of Social Work from the
University of New Hampshire and completed undergraduate studies in psychology at New England College, including international coursework at Oxford University. Timisha’s scholarly and clinical work is situated at the intersection of social work,
obesity medicine, and health equity. Her research interests include weight bias in healthcare, interdisciplinary care models, ethical and anti-oppressive practice, and the role of social work in
addressing the psychosocial, structural, and behavioral dimensions of chronic disease. Her doctoral capstone project examines the integration of clinical social work into obesity medicine teams as a mechanism for improving patient engagement, mitigating weight-based stigma, and enhancing long-term treatment outcomes through a biopsychosocial and systems-oriented framework.
Timisha serves as a peer-reviewed Editorial Board Member for Bariatric Times and is actively involved with the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, the Obesity Action Coalition, and a Distinguished Fellow of the National Academies of Practice. Her scholarly contributions include peer-reviewed publications, invited national presentations, and curriculum development for medical trainees focused on professionalism, bias reduction, and
integrated behavioral health. Her professional distinctions include national recognition for leadership and advocacy in obesity-related healthcare policy and interprofessional education.

Accreditation: University of Kentucky College of Social Work, Provider # 1377, is approved as an ACE provider to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE provider approval period: 9/29/25-9/29/28. Social workers participating in this conference will receive up to 15 general continuing education credits.
