Presenter Bio:

Sanjuanita De Luna is a clinical social worker (LCSW-S) with close to 35 years of experience. Sanjuanita’s cultural exposure has encompassed the cultural richness of the Mexican and Mexican American border experiences. Her education includes a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Psychology and Sociology, a Bachelor of Social Work from Texas A&M International University (TAMIU), and a Master of Social Work from the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). She is currently pursuing her doctorate in social work with a clinical concentration at the University of Kentucky.

Sanjuanita has dedicated most of her professional endeavors to the practice of medical social work, working within an interdisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, dietitians, and physical therapists. As a medical social worker, she has served nursing homes, home health agencies, hospitals, in-center hospice, and dialysis clinics. Sanjuanita has added psychotherapy practice since 2014 and currently works in both fields of medical social work and psychotherapy.

After a successful and productive career in direct practice, Sanjuanita, upon graduating with a DSW in May 2026, plans to continue serving by teaching and mentoring social work students at the university level. She will complement these activities by engaging in trauma research, influencing policy through committee membership, and writing. Her current work on adverse childhood experiences in relation to social work students’ mental health has yielded a novel clinical perspective for inclusion in the training of future social workers, which she plans to present to her local social work program.
