Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this conference, participants will be able to:
- Analyze how clinical documentation functions as a site of power in social work practice by examining the ways language shapes client identity, risk, and access to services.
- Explain how anti-oppressive theory and critical social work perspectives inform ethical, strengths-based, and person-centered approaches to clinical documentation.
- Apply an anti-oppressive documentation framework by identifying concrete supervision strategies and documentation practices that reduce stigma and support equitable service delivery.
Presenter Bio
Ronnie W. Johnson, MSW, LCSW, LCAS, CCS, is a Doctor of Social Work (DSW) candidate at the University of Kentucky College of Social Work. He holds a Master of Social Work with a Substance Abuse Studies Certificate from Western Carolina University and undergraduate degrees in Social Work, Accounting, and Economics from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. His interdisciplinary academic preparation supports advanced clinical practice, organizational leadership, and policy-informed social work education.
Ronnie’s professional work centers on behavioral health, substance use treatment, and trauma-informed care across outpatient, residential, community mental health, and child welfare systems. He serves as a Behavioral Health Clinician and Clinical Supervisor in North Carolina and maintains an independent consulting practice providing clinical supervision, professional training, and workforce development for addiction and mental health professionals. He is licensed as a Clinical Social Worker and Clinical Addiction Specialist and holds certification as a Clinical Supervisor.
At the University of Kentucky, Ronnie serves on the College of Social Work’s Research Committee and Curriculum Committee. His research interests include clinical education, anti-oppressive practice, and the role of documentation in shaping access and quality of care. His doctoral capstone focuses on how clinical language used in social work documentation and communication influences access, engagement, and quality of services for individuals.
Ronnie also serves on the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Foundation for Alcohol and Drug Studies and on the Public Policy Committee of the Addiction Professionals of North Carolina, contributing to workforce development and substance-use policy initiatives.

Accreditation: University of Kentucky College of Social Work, Provider # 1377, is approved as an ACE provider to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE provider approval period: 9/29/25-9/29/28. Social workers participating in this conference will receive up to 15 general continuing education credits.
