Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this conference, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify systemic and structural barriers that hinder leadership advancement opportunities for African American women.
  2. Analyze the contributing factors, key themes, and gaps in the literature that contribute to the underrepresentation of African American women.
  3. Learn strategies that can help reduce barriers in leadership.

 

Presenter Bio:

Nikki Goins-Hughes, MS, MSW, LMSW, is a Doctoral Candidate at the University of Kentucky with an emphasis in Administrative Leadership. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work and a Master of Social Work from Alabama A&M University, and a Master of Science in Strategic Human Resource Management with a minor in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion from Athens State University. She currently serves as the Human Resources Program Manager, Personnel Administration, at the Madison County Department of Human Resources in Huntsville, Alabama, where she oversees employee and personnel matters.

Nikki’s research interests include understanding organizational structures that define leadership hierarchies and practices that limit women’s advancement, with a focus on African American women, as well as building equitable organizations and leadership pipelines. Her capstone project focuses on the systemic barriers in leadership that hinder the advancement of African American women. Nikki is deeply committed to social justice and advocating for equal opportunities for women.

Nikki is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, the National Association of Social Workers, the National Association of African Americans in Human Resources, the Delta Mu Delta International Business Honor Society, and a graduate of United Way Leadership Social Services. She also serves on the Social Work Advisory Board at Alabama A&M University. Nikki’s commitment and dedication to the social work profession aim to inspire future social work scholars to challenge systemic inequality and be advocates for systemic change.

 

Delivery Method: Live Interactive Training via Zoom Video Conferencing

Credit Hours: 1.0 (ACE)

Target Audience: This conference is intended for social workers and students.

Accreditation: University of Kentucky College of Social Work, Provider # 1377, is approved as an ACE provider to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE provider approval period: 9/29/25-9/29/28. Social workers participating in this conference will receive up to 15 general continuing education credits.

Claiming CE Credit: Instructions for claiming CE credit will be disseminated at the beginning of each session.
