A Critical Race and Intersectionality framework to address mental health care inequities among BIPOC service members in the U.S. Army
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this conference, participants will be able to:
- Identify and understand how structural racism, institutional practices, and military culture contribute to the inequities that Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) service members
experience in mental health care access and utilization. - Apply Critical Race Theory and intersectionality to understand and conceptualize the disparities within the military behavioral health systems.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the current evidence and gaps of knowledge in the literature related to racialized mental health disparities in the U.S. Army.
- 4. Identify equity-centered practice strategies that can be used to improve culturally responsive care and care engagement for BIPOC service members.
Presenter Bio:
Lyndsey Lynette Marie Milligan is a Certified Social Worker in the state of Kentucky, working towards her clinical licensure. She holds a Bachelor’s of Science in public relations from Murray State University, a Master’s of social work degree from the University of Louisville, and is currently a Doctor of Social Work Candidate at the University of Kentucky. Lyndsey is a telehealth therapist with Brock Family Therapy Center located in Louisville, Kentucky. Her research interests are centered on the inequities that BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) and other marginalized groups face when seeking mental health care in the U.S. military. Her capstone specifically focuses on a Critical Race and Intersectionality framework to address mental health care inequities among BIPOC service members in the U.S. Army.

Credit Hours: 1.0 (ACE)
Target Audience: This conference is intended for social workers and students.
Accreditation: University of Kentucky College of Social Work, Provider # 1377, is approved as an ACE provider to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE provider approval period: 9/29/25-9/29/28. Social workers participating in this conference will receive up to 15 general continuing education credits.
