The Cost to be the Boss: Addressing the Work-Related Stress of New Leaders

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this conference, participants will be able to:

  1. Participants will identify what work-related stress is and how it affects new social work leaders.
  2. Participants will conceptualize the work-related stress of new leaders utilizing role theory.
  3. Participants will learn stress management techniques and be able to utilize them when transitioning to a new leadership role.

 

Presenter Bio

Lesley Jackson is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with experience providing mental health services to children and families, specializing in creating safe spaces for women to heal and live boldly and confidently. She has also worked on a multipronged grassroots initiative addressing community violence, where she helped launch and lead a mobile crisis unit and a trauma recovery center for survivors of gun violence in Miami-Dade County. Currently, she works as a macro social worker in public policy.

She works tirelessly to serve people and her community. Through her program, Next Steps, she mentors young people in planning their careers and applying for college and scholarships. She has helped students secure thousands of dollars in scholarships. Lesley is also the founder of Truly Embrace, an organization dedicated to destigmatizing mental health through education, workshops, and wellness consulting.

Lesley earned her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Florida and her Master of Social Work from Florida International University, where she was a Health Resources and Services.
Administration (HRSA) Behavioral Health Workforce Education and Training fellow. As a doctoral candidate at the University of Kentucky, Lesley concentrated in Administration and
Leadership, focusing her research on the stressors first-time leaders face when transitioning into new leadership roles. Through her research, Lesley aims to promote a sustainable leadership workforce by helping emerging leaders prepare effectively for leadership roles, manage stress, and support organizations in ensuring that new leaders thrive.

 

Delivery Method: Live Interactive Training via Zoom Video Conferencing

Credit Hours: 1.0 (ACE)

Target Audience: This conference is intended for social workers and students.

Accreditation: University of Kentucky College of Social Work, Provider # 1377, is approved as an ACE provider to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE provider approval period: 9/29/25-9/29/28. Social workers participating in this conference will receive up to 15 general continuing education credits.

Claiming CE Credit: Instructions for claiming CE credit will be disseminated at the beginning of each session.
