Navigating Mental Wellness: A Peer-Led Journey into Adult Services

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this conference, participants will be able to:

  1. Recognize the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and epigenetics on student interventions.
  2. Analyze the consequences of discontinuing mental health services during the transition to adulthood, including risks of hospitalization, incarceration, or homelessness.
  3. Discuss the role of peer investment and student-led education in reducing stigmatization and increasing help-seeking behaviors among adolescents.

 

Presenter Bio:

Kristin Haberek earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in 2013, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Human Services in 2016. Tau Upsilon Alpha, the National Organization for Human Services Honor Society, inducted her during her undergraduate studies. She completed a Master of Social Work at Michigan State University in 2019 and subsequently obtained full licensure as a Clinical Social Worker, specializing in youth and family interventions. She is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Kentucky. She is a member of Phi Sigma Pi, a national honor fraternity emphasizing scholarship, leadership, and fellowship. During her studies at the University of Kentucky, she received the Wiley Scholarship and became a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success.

As a school-based therapist, Kristin provided therapeutic and crisis interventions for students with emotional impairments through Macomb County Community Mental Health. In October 2025, she became a clinical manager, overseeing Multi-systemic Therapy for justice-involved adolescents. Kristin’s Capstone focuses on students with Serious Emotional Disturbances and their transition to adult mental health services. Navigating Mental Wellness: A Peer-Led Journey into Adult Services highlights the risks of interrupted care, including hospitalization, homelessness, and justice involvement. Kristin’s Capstone introduces a program that takes psychoeducation and group therapy a step further, highlighting the benefits of adding student-led education to help students create a personal transition plan.

 

Delivery Method: Live Interactive Training via Zoom Video Conferencing

Credit Hours: 1.0 (ACE)

Target Audience: This conference is intended for social workers and students.

Accreditation: University of Kentucky College of Social Work, Provider # 1377, is approved as an ACE provider to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE provider approval period: 9/29/25-9/29/28. Social workers participating in this conference will receive up to 15 general continuing education credits.
