Presenter Bio

Kino D. Hickey, LCSW-S, BSW, MSW, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Board-Certified Supervisor in the state of Texas. Kino currently serves as the Suicide Prevention Coordinator at the Olin E. Teague Veteran Medical Center, Department of Veterans Affairs, in Temple, Texas. He earned his Bachelor of Social Work from Texas A&M University–Central Texas and his Master of Social Work from Baylor University.

Kino is presently a Doctoral Candidate at the University of Kentucky, where his academic work follows the Sport Social Work concentration. Kino’s research interests focus on substance use among elite athletes, particularly the psychological and performance-related pressures inherent in high-performance environments.

Kino’s doctoral capstone project, “The Pressure to Perform: Exploring the Role of Clinical Social Workers within Multidisciplinary Medical and Mental Health Treatment Teams for Elite Athletes”, explores the critical role of clinical social workers in integrated care models that promote both mental health and optimal performance.

With extensive experience in suicide prevention, substance use, trauma, and systems-level collaborations, Kino applies a strengths-based and evidence-informed approach to practice. Kino’s work prioritizes multidisciplinary coordination and ethical leadership to enhance outcomes for high-risk and specialized populations.
In recognition of his professional excellence and leadership, Kino D. Hickey was named the 2024 NASW Central Texas Branch Social Worker of the Year.

 

Delivery Method: Live Interactive Training via Zoom Video Conferencing

Credit Hours: 1.0 (ACE)

Target Audience: This conference is intended for social workers and students.

Accreditation: University of Kentucky College of Social Work, Provider # 1377, is approved as an ACE provider to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE provider approval period: 9/29/25-9/29/28. Social workers participating in this conference will receive up to 15 general continuing education credits.
