  2.  Explain the core components of the Relational Health Equity Lens (RHEL) and its theoretical foundations.
  3. Evaluate leadership and practice implications of adopting relationally affirming frameworks to advance health equity in healthcare and social work settings.

Presenter Bio:

John Danso, MSW, LSW, is a doctoral candidate in social work at the University of Kentucky, with a concentration in Administrative Leadership. Mr. Danso is a licensed social worker based in Youngstown, Ohio. He earned both his Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Social Work from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, graduating summa cum laude and earning induction into the Phi Alpha Honor Society.

Mr. Danso currently serves as a pediatric social worker at Akron Children’s Hospital, where his practice focuses on trauma-informed care, interdisciplinary collaboration, and systems-level responses to complex family and child health needs. He also contributes to social work education as a part-time instructor at Youngstown State University and maintains a clinical practice as an outpatient mental health therapist specializing in the treatment of anxiety-related disorders.

His scholarly interests center on health equity for sexual and gender minority (SGM) populations, with particular emphasis on relationally diverse communities, including individuals who identify as polyamorous or engage in consensual non-monogamy. His doctoral capstone project examines how structural mononormativity within healthcare systems contributes to relational invisibility, distorted data practices, and inequitable health outcomes. This work advances the Relational Health Equity Lens, a conceptual framework integrating structural competency, intersectionality, anti-oppressive practice, and equity-oriented healthcare to inform organizational reform.

Mr. Danso’s research and practice aim to support inclusive policy development, equitable clinical practice, and leadership strategies that improve health outcomes for marginalized populations. Publications are forthcoming.
