Description
Reimagining Response to Student Conflict in Higher Education: Strategies for Implementing Restorative Justice on Campus
The presentation will explore restorative justice’s (RJ) transformative role in addressing campus conflict, fostering student accountability, and creating a culture of collaboration and empathy. Drawing from my systematic literature review, conceptual paper, and applied project, this session highlights RJ’s potential as a proactive framework for equity and inclusivity. Emphasizing peer-led facilitation, it examines how integrating RJ principles into student life – such as residence halls, orientation, and conduct processes – equips students with essential conflict resolution skills, reduces reliance on punitive disciplinary systems, and addresses systemic inequities. Attendees will gain insights into the limitations of traditional disciplinary models and explore actionable RJ strategies for fostering accountability, empathy, and cultural transformation in college communities.
Upon completion of this conference, participants will be able to:
- Examine the transformative role of restorative justice in addressing campus conflict and fostering accountability, empathy, and collaboration.
- Identify strategies for embedding restorative justice principles into student life, including proactive measures in residence halls, orientation, and conduct processes.
- Identify methods for addressing systemic inequities in disciplinary processes while equipping students with essential conflict resolution skills.
