Presenter Bio

Bree Winton currently resides in New Orleans, Louisiana, and grew up in a military family, moving nearly every year and living in a total of 18 different places. These formative experiences shaped her adaptability, cultural awareness, and commitment to fostering belonging in educational settings. Bree is happily married to her husband, Joshua Winton, who serves as a pastor in New Orleans. In her role as a pastor’s wife, Bree is engaged in community care, emotional support, and relational ministry, which complements her social work practice and further strengthens her commitment to empathy, advocacy, and relationship-centered approaches.

Bree earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from North Greenville University and her Master of Social Work from Louisiana State University. During her undergraduate internship, she discovered her passion for helping others and supporting the needs of her community, which led to her pursuing advanced training in social work. While completing her MSW at Louisiana State University, Bree gained experience in psychiatric care, outpatient counseling, and school social work. Upon graduating, Bree began her professional career as a school social worker at Holy Cross School in New Orleans. She currently serves in a supervisory role, overseeing social workers and counselors who provide a range of student services, including academic planning, mental health counseling, special education support services, crisis intervention, and collaboration with school leadership to promote student well-being and success.

In the fall of 2023, Bree was hired as an adjunct instructor at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Her teaching experience further solidified her desire to educate, mentor, and shape future social workers. Bree aspires to continue teaching, guided by a teaching philosophy that emphasizes relational learning and student-centered approaches to equip emerging social work professionals.

Bree is currently a Doctor of Social Work candidate at the University of Kentucky. Her scholarly interests include student belonging, self-efficacy, student well-being, and relationship-centered learning. Her capstone project, Fighting Feelings of Fraudulence: Mitigating Impostorism in Social Work Education, explores the use of relational pedagogy to address impostorism by promoting student belonging, self-efficacy, and professional identity development among social work students.
