Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this conference, participants will be able to:

  1. Examine connections between problematic prescribing patterns and systemic issues in the child welfare system.
  2. Describe a theoretical framework that integrates the principles of clinical ethics with systems theory to address the overuse of psycho pharmaceuticals in child welfare systems.
  3. Discuss the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration within a structured prescription and monitoring protocol.
  4. Summarize the role of a clinical social worker in an interdisciplinary mental health treatment team.

Presenter Bio

Alexis Teske is a registered Clinical Social Worker and a doctoral candidate in the University of Kentucky’s Doctor of Social Work program – clinical concentration. She earned her Master of Social Work from the University of Calgary, a Bachelor of Social Work from St. Thomas University, and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of New Brunswick. Additionally, she holds dual certifications from the National Board of Forensic Mental Health Evaluators in forensic mental health evaluation and child custody evaluation. Currently, Alexis is the Dean for the School of Health and Human Services at Keyano College. In this role, she oversees diploma and degree-level programs in social work, early childhood education, nursing, and paramedicine.
With over 14 years of professional experience spanning roles in child welfare, private clinical practice, and post-secondary education, she specializes in assessment and clinical services for individuals who have experienced complex developmental trauma. Alexis’ research interests include the exploration of treatment models and outcomes for children who have experienced significant trauma and adversity. Her capstone project, When the System Drives Prescriptions: Examining the Overuse of Psychopharmaceuticals in Child Welfare, reflects her commitment to enhancing the provision of ethical, evidence-informed clinical care for children and youth.

Target Audience: This conference is intended for social workers and students.

Accreditation: University of Kentucky College of Social Work, Provider # 1377, is approved as an ACE provider to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE provider approval period: 9/29/25-9/29/28. Social workers participating in this conference will receive up to 15 general continuing education credits.
