This training will provide foster parents with information about adverse and positive childhood experiences and how each affect the developing child. Information will be provided about how to identify and encourage the use of positive childhood experiences with their children.

This training will teach parents:

  • The 10 categories of Adverse Childhood Experiences and their long-term consequences
  • How Adverse Childhood Experiences affect various parts of the brain
  • Techniques that can help a child who has experienced Adverse Childhood Experiences
  • How to identify Positive Childhood Experiences and understand their long-term benefits
  • How to develop a list of Positive Childhood Experiences to encourage, engage in, and reinforce use with their children

About the Speaker:

As a foster and adoptive parent to five children, Angela Jamison understands the unique challenges that foster and adoptive parents face. She has served as an adoptive parent liaison for Adoption Support Kentucky (ASK), and she conducts trainings and offers one-on-one support for adoptive, foster and kinship families.

Angela has a Master of Social Work from UK, holds a Trauma Responsive Practice Certificate from UK, is a Certified Social Worker in KY and a Licensed Social Worker in Ohio. She is the Executive Director of Fostering Growth Solutions and the Training and Outreach Director, Foster Care & Adoption Specialist with the Children’s Mental Health Resource Center.

This training has been approved for ongoing, elective foster parent training credit. 1.5 hours is available for Kentucky’s foster parents. Foster parent training credit is administered based on the duration of the training and each attendee’s participation. A reliable internet connection and a smartphone, tablet, or computer with web camera is required to participateNote that this training will address sensitive subject matter. Please ensure that you are using techniques (such as headphones, a different room, or a lower volume level) to ensure privacy.
