Introduction to Genetic Conditions and Testing
with Hillary Rieger, MA, MS, LCGC, senior genetic counselor
This presentation will be reviewing the basics of genetics and genetic testing modalities as well as describing multiple common genetic conditions. The core concepts will be understanding what we mean by "genetic" conditions as well as different testing modalities and types of results, recognizing symptoms concerning for a genetic condition, and how to interface with genetics providers about a child's diagnosis.
Hillary Rieger has been working as a genetic counselor at University of Kentucky since 2020. She evaluates adults and children in both ambulatory and hospital settings who either have a personal history or a family history of symptoms concerning for a genetic condition. She received her graduate degrees in Medical Humanities and Bioethics and Genetic Counseling from Northwestern University.
