Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this conference, participants will be able to:
- Describe structural, administrative, and systemic barriers that contribute to inequitable access to mental health services within medical and specialty care settings.
- Explain how Feminist Theory and Critical Race Theory can be applied to clinical social work administration to identify and disrupt inequitable policies, practices, and decision-making structures.
- Implement evidence-based strategies from the Primary Care Behavioral Health (PCBH) model to support the integration of behavioral health services within cardiology settings.
Presenter Bio:
Michelle Box is a licensed independent social worker in Ohio with almost two decades of experience serving the behavioral health population. Her professional experience spans domestic violence advocacy, clinical and administrative roles in community behavioral health organizations, and integrated behavioral health services in the medical community, including specialty care integration in cardiology, OB/GYN, and pain management practices.
Michelle has owned and operated a private practice for individual therapy services for the past three years. Over the last year, Michelle has expanded her professional experience by teaching in the Master of Social Work program at the University of Kentucky, as well as the Bachelor’s and Master’s of Social Work programs at Cleveland State University.
Michelle’s area of research interest is focused on health disparities in marginalized populations, including African American women and the LGBTQIA population. Michelle is focused on advocacy for improved access to physical and mental health services through integrated care models.
Michelle’s education includes an associate’s degree in Mental Health Technology from Sinclair Community College (2005), a Bachelor of Social Work (2007), and a Master of Social Work (2008) from the University of Cincinnati. She is currently a candidate for a Doctor of Social Work with an anticipated graduation date of May 2026 from the University of Kentucky College of Social Work. Additionally, Michelle is trained in CBT, DBT, TF-CBT, and Motivational Interviewing, Primary Care Behavioral Health Model, and certified in treating anxiety in children.

Target Audience: This conference is intended for social workers and students.
Accreditation: University of Kentucky College of Social Work, Provider # 1377, is approved as an ACE provider to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE provider approval period: 9/29/25-9/29/28. Social workers participating in this conference will receive up to 15 general continuing education credits.
