Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this conference, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe key principles of effective broaching in academic relationships
  2. Identify multilevel barriers to racial, ethnic, and cultural dialogue in academic relationships
  3. Apply research-informed strategies to initiate and sustain meaningful conversations about race, ethnicity, and culture with students.

 

Presenter BioL

Frank Mborogo (pronounced mm-bor-oh-go) is a first-generation doctoral student born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya. He is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Doctoral Candidate in Social Work Education at the University of Kentucky College of Social Work. He holds a Master of Social Work from The Catholic University of America and a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Management from Makerere University in Uganda.

His research examines the intersection of race, ethnicity, culture, and pedagogy in social work and higher education, with particular attention to educator–student relationships and professional formation. His doctoral capstone examines educators’ reluctance to engage in discussions of race, ethnicity, and culture and advances a conceptual framework for broaching these topics as a core pedagogical practice in social work education, and beyond.

Mr. Mborogo has over 12 years of professional experience in mental health and criminal justice settings and currently serves as a Clinical Criminal Justice Social Worker with the Maryland Division of Corrections. His applied background includes behavioral health case management, emergency department crisis counseling, outpatient mental health services, and social work field instruction. In his personal time, he enjoys woodworking and practices Krav Maga.

Target Audience: This conference is intended for social workers and students.

Accreditation: University of Kentucky College of Social Work, Provider # 1377, is approved as an ACE provider to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE provider approval period: 9/29/25-9/29/28. Social workers participating in this conference will receive up to 15 general continuing education credits.
