Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this conference, participants will be able to:

  1. Upon completion of this presentation, the viewer will be able to identify three key elements within clinical supervisory relationships that existing literature noted as correlated to supervisee clinical self-efficacy.
  2. Upon completion of this presentation, the viewer should be able to identify the three key theories that inform the ARC Model and briefly note how each theory can affect the supervisory relationship.
  3. Upon completion of this presentation, the viewer will identify three considerations regarding the unique nature of providing clinical supervision within a community mental health setting.

 

Presenter Bio:

Patty Jane Zavaleta is a licensed clinical social worker in the Commonwealth of Virginia. She received her Bachelor of Arts in History from George Mason University, her Master of Social Work from the Catholic University of America, and she is a Doctoral Candidate within the clinical concentration at the University of Kentucky. Ms. Zavaleta served in the United States Marine Corps and then worked as a law enforcement officer before transitioning to a career in social work. Ms. Zavaleta is a first-line supervisor within the Supported Living Services (SLS) Program of Prince William County Community Services, where she has worked for over seven years. Ms. Zavaleta provides direct services, in English and Spanish, to individuals living with serious mental illness (SMI) and co-occurring diagnoses, though her primary focus is providing clinical supervision to licensed and pre-licensed clinicians. Ms. Zavaleta also served as a clinical consultant, developing and facilitating training for a law enforcement peer support team for three years.

Ms. Zavaleta’s research interests include clinical supervision, community mental health, and serious mental illness. Ms. Zavaleta’s Capstone Project focuses on the foundation of clinical social work: supervision. The Capstone research process identified trends within the relevant social work supervision literature, and thus Ms. Zavaleta developed the ARC model, a multi-theoretical model that focuses on understanding the supervisory relationship from a relational, environmental, and culturally informed perspective for pre-licensed social workers in a community mental health setting.

Target Audience: This conference is intended for social workers and students.

Accreditation: University of Kentucky College of Social Work, Provider # 1377, is approved as an ACE provider to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE provider approval period: 9/29/25-9/29/28. Social workers participating in this conference will receive up to 15 general continuing education credits.
