Presenter Bio:

Heathyr Watson is a Licensed Social Worker in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Heathyr obtained her bachelor’s degree in history education from Huntington University, a Master’s of Social Work from Indiana Wesleyan University, and is a Doctor of Social Work-candidate at the University of Kentucky. Her capstone project explores influencing positive identity development in preadolescent youth using tabletop role-playing games in a clinical setting. Heathyr chose her topic after working with adults who faced significant trauma during preadolescence and struggle with who they are today. Other research interests include abolition and decolonization in social work practice, advocating for system changes at the community level, and welfare policies for children in out-of-home care. The uniting factor in her research is creating and advocating for better services for all children and their families.

Heathyr started her social work career working with youth in a residential setting and as a case manager in emergency shelter care for children and adolescents. She is currently employed by Park Center, where she is a therapist providing services to children, families, and individuals. She specializes in working with preadolescent youth, identity development in trauma survivors, and empowering clients who are navigating mandated services. As a social worker, Heathyr believes that supporting and empowering individuals and families creates change in the community.
