Description

Social workers play a critical role in supporting individuals whose executive functioning has been disrupted by trauma. Executive functions—such as emotional regulation, working memory, impulse control, and goal setting—are essential for adaptive behavior and daily functioning. Yet trauma, particularly chronic or complex trauma, can derail the development and application of these skills.

This session is designed specifically for social workers seeking to deepen their understanding of how trauma impacts the brain and executive functioning. Strategies to help clients build these skills will be explored. Social workers will leave this session equipped to help clients move beyond survival mode and toward long-term thriving.

Learning Outcomes

At the conclusion of this training, you will be able to:

  • Explain the neurological impact of trauma on executive functioning.
  • Recognize how executive dysfunction presents in client populations.
  • Apply strategies to support clients in rebuilding executive functioning skills.
