Description

Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention determined that in 2021, there was an average of 1 suicide death every 11 minutes. Suicide prevention aims to reduce the occurrence of self-inflicted deaths by implementing strategies and providing support to individuals who may be at risk.

This training will explore risk factors, clinical approaches, treatment, and resource interventions and meets the requirement of the Kentucky Board of Social Work for Licensed Clinical Social Workers and other professionals included in KRS 210.366.

University of Kentucky College of Social Work, Provider # 1377, is approved as an ACE provider to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE provider approval period: 9/29/22-9/29/25. Social workers completing this course receive 6 continuing education credits.

This course meets Kentucky requirements for six board approved hours on suicide assessment, treatment, and management and is approved by the Kentucky Board of Social Work for 7.2 credit hours. Approval No.: KBSWSP-202322

Instructor
Shericka Smith, DSW, MSSW, LCSW was born and raised in Lexington, Kentucky and is a mental health coordinator for Fayette County Public Schools. Shericka obtained an undergraduate degree from Transylvania University where she studied Spanish and Psychology. She then went on to the University of Louisville, earning her Masters in School Social Work. She recently obtained her Doctorate in Social Work and is teaching classes at the University of Kentucky. She also provides mental health counseling at a private practice she co-owns, Wellness Within, working with people of all ages.
