Join us for LIVE webinar on December 8, 2021 6 – 7:30 pm as we discuss the resources available to Kinship families through the Educational system. We will discuss the supports and programs that schools offer to families caring for kinship children, including understanding how to request and advocate for these services. Caregivers will learn about ARC’s, IEP’s and 504 plans in addition to other programs and services available, and, understand their rights as caregivers and the rights of the child.
About the Trainers:
Rachael Wall is a Kentucky native with years of advocacy experience in Education, Family Services and Community Supports. As a Kinship Peer Support Specialist with KY-KINS, Adoptive Parent Liaison with Adoption Support of Kentucky (ASK) and Resource Parent Trainer for Eastern KY University Rachael has an opportunity to work closely with foster, adoptive, relative, and fictive-kin caregivers throughout the Commonwealth helping them navigate their unique journey and meet their individual needs by providing strong individual and social supports. Rachael has 17 years of experience working with families in Kentucky in her role as a Special Advocate for Education with the University of Kentucky.
Stephanie Spires has been a foster parent for over 10 years. She is a Care Plus parent that specializes in working with children who have experienced significant trauma and struggle with managing their behaviors. She has fostered and/or provided respite for over three dozen children and has adopted four children from foster care. She currently leads a transracial adoption support group and monthly trainings for foster and adoptive families through Adoption Support Kentucky in partnership with the UK College of Social Work. She serves on the Fayette County Public Schools Board of Education and is the immediate past chairwoman.
