KIN VIP School Edition, a NEW program offered through Kentucky Kinship Resource Center (KKRC) at the University of Kentucky, in partnership with Jefferson County Public Schools, will offer a virtually-based support group for kinship caregivers currently caring for elementary-aged children attending JCPS!

Through the convenience of twice-monthly zoom meetings, caregivers can participate with a trained KKRC facilitator to get assistance in navigating kinship care issues, school transitions or challenges, or resources to better support their child! See details below!


Who: Kinship caregivers who are raising a child they are related to or care about (fictive kin). Caregivers may or may not have custody of the child, but are the primary caretaker.

When: Every second and fourth Wednesday, 12 pm EST- 1pm EST

How long will the group meet: 3 months, March – May, 2024

About the Facilitator:

Merlin Jones Smalley is a recently retired FRYSC agent with Jefferson County Public Schools. Merlin is a kinship caregiver and is knowledgeable in resources available to support kinship families in Jefferson County and through JCPC, and currently facilitates an long-running, virtual, kinship support group.


This group is completely free and available to any caregiver raising an elementary school aged relative or fictive kin child in Jefferson County.
