Trauma-Sensitive Leadership in Multidisciplinary Settings

As the social work professional continues to expand outside of traditional settings, it is critical for social workers to be prepared to lead in these expanded areas. Social worker leaders in non-traditional settings may provide supervision to employees or community programs which are comprised of multidisciplinary teams, such as government
settings, environmental justice, and international crisis response, where trauma exposure and behavioral response, or burnout may be unfamiliar topics.

This presentation introduces participants to the concept of trauma- sensitive leadership in multidisciplinary, non-traditional social science settings. The importance of supporting staff who are unfamiliar with the impacts of trauma will be discussed, as well as current research, gaps in research, and solutions in implementation.

Through the use of lecture and PowerPoint, this training focuses on the basic importance and strategies for leaders to successfully guide teams through these scenarios.
