Tourette’s Disorder and Related Conditions

In recent years, with improved public awareness about the disorders, clinicians find themselves faced with sometimes very complex clients who have Tourette’s, and related disorders. Recent developments have proven the efficacy of behavioral treatment of tics, at least in some cases. These interventions show as much or slightly more efficacy when compared with the medications typically prescribed, not to mention a dramatically lower risk of complications. This presentation will offer clinicians the opportunity to learn how to assess the needs of individuals having tics and co-occurring conditions, with an eye toward addressing the issues that are most impacting the young person.

Enhancing Permanency for Older Youth in Out-of-Home Care

Finding permanent families for older children and youth in out-of-home care continues to need a strong focus from foster care workers and other child welfare professionals. National statistics show that older children stay in foster care longer and achieve permanency at lower rates than younger children. The youth who age out of the Foster Care System often leave with few skills, minimal education, and inadequate preparation for living as productive, independent adults. This training will help identify the barriers and ways to work with and alongside other professionals and the children whom are affected by the lack of permanency in hopes to gain a more efficient way to achieve permanency for them and their future. This course is geared for professionals at the basic, intermediate, advanced and clinical levels.
