Suicide Risk Assessment, Treatment and Management Training for Clinicians

This training is designed to meet the requirements set forth in the new KRS 210.336 regulation and will focus on core competencies for clinicians regarding the assessment, treatment and management of suicide risk, including the knowledge and skills necessary to mitigate risk factors and to enhance protective factors. The primary resource utilized in the training will be “The Assessment and Management of Suicidality: A pocket guide for the practitioner” by M. David Rudd, Ph.D., ABPP, (2006) Professional Resource Press, Sarasota. (Materials used with written permission of the author.) Additional training highlights include the: QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) gatekeeper concepts that that can be passed along to families of suicidal clients; evaluation of a variety of risk factors for suicide; use of Rudd’s standardized form to enhance the therapeutic relationship, gather history, assess both chronic and acute risk, plan for potential risk escalation and appropriate response, plan for on-going patient commitment to treatment; how to respond sensitively to Survivors of Suicide (SOS); and how to handle a suicide attempt or death of a client. Extensive case examples, sample evaluation forms, role plays, and discussion will be used to apply the concepts. Participants will also receive a copy of the reference text to keep.
